MAKRO Cash & Carry opens new store in Aveiro

Lisbon, 28 October 2008 – Today, MAKRO Cash & Carry Portugal presented its new store in Aveiro. Matthias Hinz, Makro Portugal Managing Director, and Aveiro Mayor Élio Maia were present at the opening ceremony. On a total sales floor of about 6.560 sqm, the Aveiro store offers a diversified and exclusive assortment tailored to the special needs of professional customers. By opening its new outlet, MAKRO Cash & Carry extends its distribution network in Portugal to a total of 11 stores.

“With more than 750.000 people and a big number of hotels, restaurants as well as small retailers, the Aveiro district offers a big potential for our core business“, said Matthias Hinz. “We are firmly convinced that our new store will be very successful, it will be well accepted within the Aveiro community and will represent a big benefit to the local economy.”

Placed in the industrial area of Tabueira, the store construction started in past July and was finished within 4 months. With the Aveiro store, MAKRO Cash & Carry reinforces the sea coast area coverage, enlarging its offer in medium size cities. With a focus strategy in the Horeca channel, Makro continues to extend its business near little grocery stores, coffee-shops and little supermarkets, with a big selection of professional solutions, completely adapted to each kind of business. The new outlet offers its professional customers extended opening hours – from 8 am to 8 pm, from Monday to Saturday.

The new Aveiro store gives direct employment to 82 people from the local community and is also in this way contributing to the development of the local economy. On average a new MAKRO Cash & Carry store is an investment of about 15 million Euros.
