METRO Cash & Carry opens Munich-Brunnthal location

Brunnthal, 16 October 2008 – The new wholesale store has opened for business today in the Limax business park after nine months of construction work. With this fourth location in Munich, METRO Cash & Carry now serves the south of the city as well as the Tegernsee/Rosenheim region. A wide range of products awaits the customer, spread out over approx. 13,000 m². Horst Horn, Store Manager, and his colleagues are available to offer professional advice.

"The recent months’ construction works have gone completely according to plan. We know look forward to satisfying the needs of the business customer with our extensive range and tailor-made services," says Horst Horn. "Customer feedback in the run-up to the opening was already very positive. Around 40,000 business customers have already registered."

Exclusive specialities
The wholesale store has a range of around 50,000 items. One of the special features is the wine section with one of four humidors in all Germany. Around 320 specially selected wines, Champagnes and spirits are kept here at constant temperature and humidity levels. Noble vintages from South Tyrol is one highlight. Daily tastings give customers the opportunity to test the quality of the products for themselves. Two qualified wine experts are there to help them make their selection.

For professionals, by professionals
One of the METRO Cash & Carry services is a Gastroshop for the special requirements of the hotel and restaurant trade and caterers. Here, business customers can find electrical appliances and accessories for professional kitchens and bars. An expert is available to answer questions on large-scale kitchen planning. With professional customers in mind, the Office/Multimedia and Household/Gastronomy sections have also been particularly well-equipped. Wide aisles and clearly-organized departments make for a comfortable shopping experience. And: Customers can count on competent expert advice. "For restaurant owners with German and Italian cuisines, we have recruited our own three experienced customer managers," says the store manager.

Responsible energy use
METRO Cash & Carry has also demonstrated great foresight when planning its energy management: The roof of the wholesale store is equipped with a photovoltaic unit which uses sunlight to produce electricity. This way, the new location contributes to protecting the environment. METRO Cash & Carry is also installing a modern professional refrigeration unit in the cold sections. The extracted warm air is transferred to the heating network – which saves energy costs and is good for the environment.
