METRO Cash & Carry: first solar energy run store in Turkey
Antalya, 14 December 2007 – Today METRO Cash & Carry Turkey opened its overall 11th store in Antalya. It is the company’s first location in Turkey using solar energy. The new store is built on a total area of 12,690 sqm and caters to the special needs of professional customers.
By using solar energy in its new store in Antalya, METRO Cash & Carry continues to make a difference in climate protection. It is the company’s first location in Turkey using solar energy. Due to the sun’s intensity, Antalya is an ideal geographic location for the use of solar energy and promises maximum benefits.

On an area of 4,048 sqm for food products and 3,704 sqm for non-food products, METRO Cash & Carry Antalya offers more than 30,000 sorts of goods to professional customers. The leading Cash & Carry wholesaler invested in the Antalya store, which is intended to become the number one wholesale center in the Antalya, Isparta and Burdur region, home to more than two million people. There are 82,000 taxpayers in the area covered by the Antalya store. By now already, the store notes more than 48,000 registered customers.
Besides supporting the local industries, METRO Cash & Carry plays a significant role as employer offering approximately 300 new work places. By this means, METRO Cash & Carry gives a positive impulse to the local job market.
Turkey is an important growth region for METRO Cash & Carry. The Antalya store is the eleventh METRO Cash & Carry wholesale store in the country. Building on this success, METRO Cash & Carry plans to continue its expansion by opening between two and four stores in Turkey per year.
