Three store layouts to meet specific customer needs
There are three categories of METRO Cash & Carry wholesale stores. At each site, the market leader in international self-service wholesaling determines the appropriate format: Junior, ECO or Classic. Selection criteria include the customer potential and the space available on location.
ECO
The ECO wholesale store is the smallest store format. The net sales area is between 2,500 and 4,000 square meters.
Target groups are primarily restaurant and hotel operators and caterers. Food makes up around 90 percent of the range (marked here in blue). On average, some 2,000 to 8,000 customers are served by an ECO wholesale store.
Especially in France, the ECO format is very popular. METRO Cash & Carry today operates ECO wholesale stores in eight other countries as well.
Junior
METRO Cash & Carry builds Junior stores where space is restricted and where the expected customer potential in the catchment area is limited. The Junior format is the model preferred for expansion into the growth markets of Eastern Europe. Between 20,000 and 60,000 customers can be served in a Junior store in a net sales space of 7,000 to 9,000 square meters.
Classic
The Classic format represents the original layout of METRO Cash & Carry wholesale stores. Classic stores have a net selling space of at least 10,000 square meters and can serve between 30,000 to 100,000 customers.
METRO Cash & Carry Classic stores carry the wholesaler’s largest food and nonfood selections.
