Transparency – from the producer to the sales shelf

showing the way to the customer

Nitrofen in eggs, dioxin in milk, mad cow disease: various scandals concerning foodstuffs have been cause for alarm in recent years. Consumers are uncertain as to whether and how they can be sure where the groceries they buy come from. According to a new EU directive, since early 2005, all wholesalers and retailers must be able to track their goods every step of the way, from production to processing through to delivery.

Responsibility for the customer

METRO Cash & Carry takes the responsibility it has for its customers very seriously. Thanks to its global quality standards, the company is in a position to offer only safe, top-grade products for sale. Should, despite all measures taken, inferior goods require a recall, these can be removed from the shelves immediately – thanks to an internationally networked QA team that is also responsible for compiling the product data of deliveries.

In order to monitor the movement of goods even better and faster, the company will be employing
innovative technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
